Should I install an SSL security server certificate?
SSL is a security technology that encrypts data between the browser and the server.
If your site handles personal information, installation is legally required.
What SSL is
SSL stands for 'Secure Sockets Layer', also called web server authentication or server authentication.
By encrypting the data exchanged between the browser and the server, it protects the contents even if the information is intercepted in transit.
When you should install it
If any of the following apply, an SSL certificate is required by law.
- Sites operating an online shop
- Sites that collect and store two or more types of personal information
- Sites that process financial or payment information
The relevant basis is the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.
For details, please refer to the guidance from the relevant authorities.
